The History and Tradition Postcard Collection.
This collection of Postcards is probably one of the best know examples of Military Postcards of all time. Originally produced by Gale & Polden from 1908, the basis set consisted of 120 cards which depicted all the Regular Regiments & Corps of the British Army. They were the only set of cards authorised by the War Office.
The first paintings mainly of the Foot Regiments were done by the artist John McNeil in 1908, when a year later Ernest Ibbetson started on the Cavalry. The series had many alternative cards over the years with changes in uniform fashions, khaki uniform of WWI, different Royal Crests, new battle honours & new Regiments like the R.F.C and Welsh Guards. In addition to the Regular Army Regiments, some Volunteer Battalions were issued as were some Yeomanry Regiments.
A further development of the illustrated part of these cards were the issue of the "Soldiers Pay Cards". These were used by the Regiments for recruiting purposes and had the illustration on the left side and the current pay & details on the right. These original cards are rare and very expensive.
All the examples of the original cards have been added together before being reproduced to make one big collection of over 240 modern day cards. These may be purchased in parts of 30 card sets. No sets can be split up but it is possible to purchased just larger sections (we do not supply any less then 30 cards per order) ie. just the "Cavalry" or "Infantry".
The cost of each set is £30.00 for the purpose of calculation of postage costs the weight of each set is 250gms., if you require the full listing of the collection please send 2x1st Class stamps or 2 IRC’s.
